On the road: The HIATUS MODE

Posted by darbs on August 6, 2009

Boredom comes from a boring mind.  METALLICA

Long driving is fun as well as tiring.

For sure, mental and physical preparations are needed.

And dose of prayer.

On the road you would remember something.

Remembering World History: August 06, 1945

Did we learn from that experience?

Question: Why humanity continue to build bombs potent than Atomic Bombs: Nagasaki and Hiroshima?

Imagine the cost to build one Nuke.

Inspiration: Father Pedro Arrupe, S.J was living in suburban Hiroshima when the atomic bomb fell in August 1945.

“a permanent experience outside of history, engraved on my memory.” (wikipedia)

road-trip-2009Dear Fellas,

I might not be able to respond to your emails/comments and/or bloghop in few hours because we are on a road trip.

The destination: Miss Florida.

I just took the “I ” from the original blog entry of Manay Reesie: Off Top of My Head.

Hiatus Mode Effect:

  • Religious/Cultural/Tradition: We think of this journey the summer quality time guided by the Ignatius Spiritual Exercise.
  • No Internet access
  • We might just be sleeping in rest areas without Wi Fi connection.
  • Listening the sound of silence: “The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel.”
Hello darkness, my old friend, Ive come to talk with you again, Because a vision softly creeping, Left its seeds while I was sleeping, And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence. In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone, neath the halo of a street lamp, I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of A neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence. And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more. People talking without speaking, People hearing without listening, People writing songs that voices never share And no one deared Disturb the sound of silence. Fools said i,you do not know Silence like a cancer grows. Hear my words that I might teach you,  Take my arms that I might reach you. But my words like silent raindrops fell, And echoed In the wells of silence  And the people bowed and prayed To the neon God they made.  And the sign flashed out its warning, In the words that it was forming.  And the signs said, the words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls  And tenement halls.  And whisperd in the sounds of silence.

On June 20, 1977 the White Warriors Union death squad threatened to kill each of the 47 Jesuits in El Salvador unless they abandoned their work with the poor, and left the country within a month. After consulting with his men, Fr. Arrupe replied, “They may end up as martyrs, but my priests are not going to leave (El Salvador), because they are with the people.” Six Jesuits were subsequently murdered on November 16, 1989 at the Jesuit University of Central America as well as other Jesuits such as Rutilio Grande, and later also the Archbishop Óscar Romero (the later is not a jesuit, he was a diocesan priest very close to Opus Dei since his spiritual director belonged to said congregation).

    Para kay Darbs,

    Here comes the sun!

in Japan it was already December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and Arrupe was saying Mass when he was arrested and imprisoned for a time.

Asa ka sa panahon sa Kumbera didto sa may kilid ni Padreng Gidungoy pero Molamoy kung Pasagdan?

    Any collaborative stories?

    The Universal Concept of Church

    The People/Faithfuls/Us/We/: who?
Was this not the 1980’s Faith Based Initiative Concept?
Let us remind ourselves with this story. Change the name to Philippines. Set you clock to year 1983.

The Church in South America was predominantly faced with the poverty that many considered to be caused by the perceived injustice of tiny minorities of the population owning and controlling vast amounts of the countries wealth and resources. Controversially the theologians in South America became more and more politically involved, often adopting Marxist positions. Many Jesuits in South and Central America, aware that the Church had in the past appeared to accept and even to defend this inequality, were at the forefront of this movement. The theology that grew out of their work was called Liberation Theology.

  11. Hahaha! I know that 476 exit hahaha! But that was way far from my house already, that’s like south near Delaware na, and i am in the far northeast. Curiously though, ba’t ka pa dumaan nang Philadelphia when you could have taken the New Jersey Turnpike all the way to Delaware bypassing Philadelphia? Ini-istok mo ako ano? hahaha! Malapit na rin akong mag-long drive again! hehehe! And I am beginnning to love long driving!
