The first snowfall in New York City

Posted by darbs on December 21, 2009

The promise of snowfall finally came on  December 19, 2009. Everyone in the household was excited when snowflakes started pouring down late afternoon. I did not really expect for the snowfall to accumulate as much as quarter of an inch contradicting to the weather people’s report of 14 to 16 inches. Well, what do you expect, they always proved themselves wrong.

Besides, as far as I could remember, we never really had that much of a snow in the past couple of winters. Pessimism based from past experience, in addition to the effect of global warning in mind and the idea of a blog entry, had pushed me to brave the chilly night.

I need to catch the moment that might never happen again. So around 10:00 P.M. before going to bed, I decided to go out and took some pictures.

Once I did that, I could peacefully lay in our cozy bed confident that even if 16-inch snowfall as reported would not come and the snow is all gone when morning comes, does not matter any longer – – I photographed the moment.

I could not take that chance.

With few images of the snowfall in my disposal, I did not care anymore if  I could not  see any snow on the ground in the morning when I wake up.
